Help Low-Income Windsor Residents Grow Food
Windsor Garden Club Needs Your Help to Help Local Low-income Families

Windsor Garden Club is looking for Six Good People to donate $80 to sponsor a spot in the Town Green Community Garden for a low-income family through 2024.
Every year, WGC provides 10 to 20 raised garden beds in the Town Green Community Garden to low-income Windsor residents who otherwise could not afford them. Those gardeners in "sponsored" garden beds grow vegetables, herbs and berries to feed themselves and their families. Sponsored gardeners tend to be seniors, and families with young children -- all living in apartments or other housing with no place to garden and grow their own food.
The $80 annual rental fee for those gardeners comes from donations from local individuals or businesses. WGC can not afford to offer these sponsored beds without financial support from the community.
This year, we have 11 low-income families and seniors who qualified for sponsored garden beds. We reached out to our 2023 donors, and five of them have agreed to sponsor a bed again this year. But WGC needs an additional six donors to support the remaining families and seniors who would like to grow their own food, but have no place to do so unless WGC can offer them a sponsored bed. Anyone who would like to donate $80 to sponsor one of those beds will make a difference in the lives of some of our less fortunate neighbors.
The non-profit community betterment organization needs to raise the $480 to sponsor the remaining six beds by the end of March. Sponsors can donate anonymously or, if they'd like, have their name or business name publicized on the WGC Website and in the WGC E-Newsletter. A big thanks to five local residents who have already donated to sponsor a bed: Tara and Robert Nieto and their wonderful business, Fleur Sauvage Chocolates; Maria Kilkenny and her health and wellness business, Maria Motivates; Vicki Shriener; Carla and Alex Tarazi; and Barbara Reitz.
