Looking for a new experience? Try entering the 2017 'Art in Bloom' Community Art & Flower Show June 1-4 in Windsor. The low-key, hometown floral arranging competition is a great way to develop your bouquet and flower-arranging skills and enter the world of juried flower shows.
Windsor's annual flower show runs along side a visual art show competition. The Windsor Garden Club runs the flower competition on behalf of the town Parks and Recreation Department.
To get budding floral arrangers ready to enter the show, Windsor Garden Club is sponsoring a free hands-on flower arranging workshop Tuesday, May 16. Members of the club's Slow Flower group will give a short presentation on floral design principals, then turn participants loose to to create their own flower arrangements using flowers and design materials provided by the club.
Participants should bring a tin can or other "drinking glass" sized container to use, as well as scissors or hand-held pruners. You and can take your arrangements home with you.
Why: Because it is flower month and we are celebrating all things flower and encouraging participation in the flower show.
Who: Slow Flower group members will manage stations to help you learn the basics of floral design. Professional florist Mary Robledo of Flourish Floral Design will be on hand to answer questions as she roams the room.
How: Please bring small scissors or pruning shears if you wish to participate along with a glass-sized vase or container. We will provide flowers and greens as well but welcome any additions you may bring.
